White Tarps

There are several different options for a heat reflective tarp, and our white tarps are one of your options. In fact, there are a couple of convincing reasons to choose a white tarp over another color:

• Heat reflectivity: White reflects sunlight while darker colors absorb it. If you know you'll be using that tarp to protect property in direct sunlight, this tarp will help you control the temperature a bit. This is especially important for boats and classic cars.
• High visibility: If the load you are covering is in an area with more traffic than usual, the white color stands out and grabs attention. This is handy if you are using a tarp to collect dropped or shaken items, such as fruit or seeds.

With several colors ranging from black to white and including everything in between, heavy-duty polyethylene tarps are all similarly made. Either medium- or heavy-duty, these polyethylene tarps are treated to be UV resistant, waterproof, mildew resistant, and rot proof, and some are fire-resistant. Some colors may be better than others for protecting your investments, and if you are looking for a material that is reflective and less likely to attract heat, go with white tarps.

Typically heavy-duty, white tarps are made from three-ply polyethylene material with a 12 mil thickness and 14-by-14 denier count. While white heavy-duty tarps keep out water and UV rays and let moisture circulate inside, the color is more reflective of sunlight and, as a result, is less likely to attract heat.

If you are concerned about the investment inside or below becoming too hot in warmer months, consider using white tarps for protection. White tarps are ideal on their own for protecting various investments. If you want to shelter your car or seasonal vehicle at any point during the year, wrap the white tarp around and secure it in place with bungee cords. In addition to keeping out UV rays and moisture, which both damage seasonal vehicles over time, the material is less likely to make the vehicle under overheat when left in the sun.

White tarps are often used as part of outdoor canopy shelters for this purpose. Designed with a powder-coated or galvanized steel frame, portable garages, carports, and similar portable storage buildings have a heavy-duty polyethylene tarp on top to keep out rain and UV rays. Carports, typically used for sheltering everyday vehicles, have a white tarp on top and, made with a valance style, are open on the sides. Portable shelters for seasonal vehicles, however, are fully enclosed and may use white tarps on all sides as well.
